Angela Barlow stars as playwright Anton Chekhov's wife, the famous Russian actress Olga Knipper.
The action takes place in an old theatre full of memories, on the set of Chekhov's last and probably greatest play: The Cherry Orchard . With an empty theatre, and nobody to talk to, the audience becomes privy to details of Chekhov's private life.
Written by Barlow, the play has a very similar structure to one of Chekhov's own plays, Swan Song. An old actor on stage reminiscing about their younger days with sporadic exerts from various plays along the way. Although well performed, the script does not contain enough to hold an audiences interest for a full hour. Watching this play, you really needed to have some knowledge, if not of Chekhov's life, then at least of his work for everything to make sense.
This is definitely a piece for someone who knows their theatre rather than a fringe audience.
