After successfully winning the National Theatre Connections programme last year, the First in Last out Theatre Company have arrived at the Fringe to present us with a fast paced, physical interpretation of George Orwell's Animal Farm .
Written and Directed by Mal Smith, the pupils from Samuel Whitbread Community College gave an impressive performance of the well known story. Throughout we encounter humorous interpretations and performances with bursts of song and dance.
Using George Orwell's political satire on Communist Russia, we are told that this is a story we already know. Then throughout are shown projections of September 11th, Margaret Thatcher and the Miners strikes, World War 2 and Tony Blair making a clear poignant reminder, although slightly clichéd.
As school productions go this is filled with potential, unfortunately it just needed to be expressed a bit further and fuller. All the components were there for a highly entertaining and thought provoking show, yet it was lacking that final oomph to turn what was a good production into a great production.
