MacBeth

Scottish Company Theatre Babel's 10th Aniversary production of William Shakespeare's Macbeth is no disappointment.

An eerie and mysterious set, smoke smoulders accross the stage as a full theatre awaits for this highly acclaimed production to begin. Music begins creeping in as the tension rises and falls. Daggers hang from the ceiling, setting the atmosphere and forming the tone for this classic, tragic, story. The colours go from grey to red, from when darkness is rife and the plotting of murder begins, to when the actual blood is shed, again and again.

Macbeth's (John Kazek) mind tortures him, as he eventually loses grip on reality and believes what happens is ultimately his pre arranged destiny, convinced by the ever so chilling witches. Lady Macbeth (Rebecca Rodgers: Co-Founder of Theatre Babel) enters with all you would hope for in such a complex character; Charisma, depth, and presence. She performs the classic scene, when she imagines blood on her hands ("Out damn Spot"), with zeal and conviction. All the cast perform this show with intensity, Lady McDuff Isabella Jarrett, faces her death shockingly and the audience lean in closer to catch a better view of this powerful and frightful scene.

This show only proves the standard of Theatre Babel's work. It would be a shame to miss this authentic and engaging piece of work.
