The Blind Fiddler

Who our parents really are as people in their own right, compared to how we see them as our Mother and Father is a familiar theme, which stirs confusion as you wonder about the choices they made and the things they may have passed down.  The Blind Fiddler , written by Marie Jones is set in Ireland and follows a Catholic family consisting of two children with opposing personalities and a marriage that struggles to adapt to change.

Kathleen (Carol Moore) sets out on a journey in understanding her family and the relationships within. The play switches from past to present as Kathleen travels through events that occurred when she was a child. Kathleen and John Joe (Paddy Jenkins), protray children comically and with excellent characterisation. Yet the whole cast are versatile, as five actors each play several different parts throughout. The music by Cathal Hayden, Mairtin O'Connor and Cathall Synnot is an essential element of this show, setting the atmosphere and injecting life.

On the whole this play doesn't exactly shout at you. It is soft in tone and gentle in its approach. Perfect for a cosy Sunday afternoon with the in laws!
