Cabaret! The musical that deals with dee p routed social issues: Prostitution, Abortion, Nazi-ism. Not according to this production. Deep Blue has created an all singing, all dancing production of Cabaret, almost completely disregarding the issues that hung over Berlin in the late 1930's. This production is far too glossy, taking out all the rough edges making this a nice production, nothing more. There was one paltry attempt to add a bit of politics, a quick Nazi salute as a curtain call, which can only be described as laughable. The singing voices are all very good, although there seems to be very little acting between songs as the cast rush through to get to the next big tune.
If you want to sing a long with some undeniably good songs then go and see this. If you are looking for the dirt behind the music then give it a miss.
