Flop

Pig Iron's return to the fringe is a most welcome one. Their particular brand of clowning and physical theatre has been missed. Their latest production, Flop , drops the audience into a clowns' tea party, quite literally, as various things are pinched off various audience members; crisps, sweets and a watch for this show. The audience feels like they are really involved in the action as everything is always directed out towards them.

The story follows our three clowns through time as they manage to break the space time continuum by playing with a clock, don't worry it really isn't complicated. As they travel through various lands, mainly gauged by temperature, they happen along some friendly aliens who aid them by providing a copy of Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of the Universe . After a quick study, the solution is found and the clowns return to their tea party, celebrating with a dance to the German version of 99 red balloons!

This is almost a traditional red nose circus clown show, with lots of set pieces and slapstick humour, things that we have all seen as children, but they still appeal to us. There are some imaginative pieces and the direct contact with the audience is fantastic. This is definitely "fun for the whole family!"
