7:84 Theatre Company answer Scotland's plea for political polemic, with their production Private Agenda . Like John McGrath did with The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black black Oil, Lorenzo Mele tells the current story of the people, to the people, in the words of the people. This time it is not as historical, but the story is certainly as political, and as applicable to audiences of today, as 7:84 was back in 1971.
Private Agenda is an examination of the state of public services in Scotland after seven years of a Labour government in Westminster and five years of a coalition parliament in Edinburgh . Using the words of people working in or campaigning for Scotland 's public services, Mele paints a picture of services rife with incompetent management and calculating private businesses out to make a fast buck wherever they can at the expense of public services.
Public Space , the second part of the evening, is a chance to discuss the public services in your area with special invited guests, the discussion was equally passionate on all sides, as more and more audience members tried to make their point. Proving 7:84's commitment to politically energising Scots the length and breadth of the country. Interesting and definitely politically motivating stuff.
