Shimmer is the type of play that requires your full attention throughout, if you are to understand this cleverly woven script, written by the ever growing Linda McLean.
Set in a Tarbet B&B in outside Loch Lomond, this play is about Missy, Petal, and Hen (Hilary Lyonn, Lesley Hart, and Una McLean), who, on there way to Iona find themselves knocking on the door of Jim's B&B. A knock which becomes almost symbolic, as each time the knock produces a different consequence.
They find themselves in the company of Owner Jim (Iain MacRae) and his two guests Sonny, a successful businessman, (Finlay Welsh and Guy Paul Rattray). From here things take many twists and turns as you watch all the ‘what ifs' and ‘If only' moments. Often, the actors tell the story rather than show, which provides time out to understand and listen to their real thoughts rather than what they actually say.
Lynne Parker's direction has created a tightly packed performance, with some skilful ways of presenting this lyrical script. The actors successfully perform Shimmer with warmth and humour against a tranquil set created by Designer Monica Frawley
This show is an excellent example of the talented writing that exists within Scotland today!
