Sisters, Such Devoted Sisters

Russell Barr sits politely, stage centre, sipping lemon tea as a bitch-fight descends, over-audibly on the ears of the audience. The dogs tear each other apart, and Barr, in, what can only be, four or five inch stiletto heels, begins his narrative. "I was in drag in the back of a Halaal meat truck".

Barr takes the audience into Glasgow's gay underworld, where murder, rape, alcoholism and abuse are rife. With a wee bit of the Glasgow banter, and an incredibly sharp wit, Bernice Hindley, (Myra's neice), introduces us to his f**ked up friends and family, childhood stories and memories best-left forgotten.

This play is incredibly funny, deeply touching and horrifically shocking. Barr is excellent as both writer and performer and holds the audience's attention with ease. This is a wonderful piece of contemporary theatre, typical of a joint Out of Joint and Drill Hall production. If you can get tickets, do so.
