The Smallest Person

Trestle Theatre have been renowned over the two decades as a company, for their innovative and exciting use of mask and puppet work, but in their latest creation The Smallest Person, they seemed nothing but ordinary.

The Smallest Person is based on the true story of Caroline Crachami who stood at a mere 19 and a half inches tall and gained admirers throughout the British Isles during her short life.

Trestle's masks have always been wonderful creations, which, along with some very good physical work, seem to take on a great range of emotion, whilst remaining inanimate objects. Yet with so many young companies now using mask and puppetry, Trestle will need to raise their game quite considerably to take on the young pretenders.

The Smallest Person is not a bad show but there does not seem to be a lot happening to hold the attention. It trundles along at an average pace, heading towards its inevitable conclusion.

Pass marks but could try harder.
