Wizard of Pop

Lucy makes her birthday wish... to become Britney Spears for a day and meet all her other favourite pop idols. She bangs her head; she's out for the count and living in the Land of Pop. The yellow brick road is now dotted with huge silver stars, and if you stand on one, a singing sensation will appear, but be careful where you step, because Meatloaf may appear!

So…Lucy becomes Britney, guided by Christina Aguilera and Holly Valance, and hindered by evil Eminem, has to journey to the see the Wizard of Pop, Simon Cowell, in order to return home to her friends and family. And what a laugh she has on the way, meeting the Atomic Grannies, Liberty X, the Lady Marmalade girls, Elton John, Pink, Rachel Stevens, Busted, Gareth Gates, Bjork and Cher!

Featuring a chirpy collection of ‘hum-a-long-a' tunes from the last year, ably performed by kids ranging from four years to…well, we'd rather not say. The group radiates enthusiasm, and it is contagious: all costumed, keen and ready to show off their pop star status.

It's an excellent night out, topped off with Karaoke to finish, so everyone can have a shot at becoming a Pop Idol...or falling to the ground trying to return to the bar for a refill. Audience participation is fully required for this.

Well done to this confident cast, all of whom did incredibly well. All singing, all dancing performances, some of the stars of the evening even got to mime like the real celebrities do!

There were too many good performances to list them all, but perhaps a few people deserve an extra mention: Mark McGregor, Rachel Hartley, Fran Nothard and Laura Eardley for their excellent vocal performances; the cheeky girls, Pink, the Thriller group for their dance and movement skills; and to Bjork and the Atomic Grannies for the funniest performances of the evening!

If you haven't seen the Wizard of Pop already, then do so, it's well worth it. Personally, any show that celebrates Cher and dismisses Meatloaf should get five stars anyway.
