Guts

Vox Motus, a young company currently operating under the Scottish Arts Council/Vanishing Point Mentoring Scheme at CCA Glasgow, brought to the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the Roxy Art House a fast paced show that will leave a smile on your face.

A work in progress, Guts is the second part of a trilogy that will culminate in a bigger show: How to Steal a Diamond . It's inspired by true stories of diamond thieves from around the world and deals with the language and tension of big heist movies. Part one, Gravel , has been presented at the Arches Theatre in January and part three, Glamour , is going to the Citizens in May.

In Guts, three young students decide to get their big break involving themselves in credit card frauds that will take them from their minimum wage jobs into the lifestyle of the rich and famous with fancy cars, great hotels and all the luxuries only the big celebrities and millionaires can afford. But this is not enough and excited by the thrilling atmosphere of a life of crime they decide to plan a big heist and steal the world's most expensive diamond bracelet.

A show devised in twelve days, Guts , brings us the same thrill and excitement (maybe even more) than big Hollywood cinematic productions. There is a constant dialogue between the show and the cinematic language. The characters come in and out of the celluloid world creating a full rounded universe with a white board, three chairs and couple of props.

What is remarkable about this show is its simplicity and ingenuity with which the story is presented and staged. Using nothing more than physicality and a series of video footage, the three young actors create, with pleasure and grace, whatever is necessary to tell this story, taking us from their office to high luxury hotels, limousines, private jets, etc. There is courage and wit in Jamie Harrison and Candice Edmunds staging and text.

It is thrilling, it's exciting, and it gives you butterflies in their stomach for what happens next. More than a work in progress this is a great small show that makes you look forward to part three and the subsequent full production with heightened anticipation.
