Glasgow based Vox Motus come to the Tron this week with How to Steal a Diamond, a fast paced crime inspired piece that tells three rags to riches stories as one.
Gravel features two men working in a diamond mine in South Africa, working with bad backs and shattered illusions they attempt to steal just one diamond past security so that a brother can be healed and a retirement could become a possibility for these men.
Guts follows three British students through their climb from petty thieves to Super-Gangsters and their try at stealing the largest diamond bracelet in the world.
The last story is Glamour where the cool Glasgow girl turned professional diamond thief educates the audience on the skills of her craft. Lori McLean excels here as The Expert sharing the secrets of her success. The three stories are mashed together using their central themes and an extremely pliable set that the company use to great effect.
How to Steal a Diamond has an exciting cinematic narrative that keeps you hooked from the very start though there are points where this filmic style with its short scenes seems a little impractical for the stage. Frequent scene changes seemed to stilt the fluidity of the piece with movement from story to story. In all this is a fresh, pacey piece of theatre that keeps its audience engaged and amused.
How to Steal a Diamond runs at the Tron Theatre Glasgow until 13 May and then tours Scotland this Autumn: |
